ForestConnect – Towards a Climate-smart Forest Connectivity for Large Carnivores in the Balkan-Carpathian-Dinaric Region
ForestConnect is an ambitious transnational project titled “Towards a Climate-smart Forest Connectivity for Large Carnivores in the Balkan-Carpathian-Dinaric Region.” The initiative addresses the urgent need to enhance and preserve biodiversity by improving ecological connectivity across key mountain regions that are home to vital populations of large carnivores. Through a climate-smart approach, the project aims to ensure sustainable forest landscapes that facilitate wildlife movement and long-term ecosystem resilience.
Funded under Competition 2.4, „Protecting and preserving the biodiversity in ecological corridors and eco-regions of transnational relevance in the Danube,” ForestConnect aligns with the goals of the “A greener, low-carbon Danube Region” program. This collaborative effort brings together stakeholders across borders to safeguard ecological corridors and promote adaptive strategies that mitigate climate change effects while supporting biodiversity and habitat integrity in one of Europe’s most ecologically significant regions.
